The amendment to the Conscription Act, which allows reservists to assist the Finnish Border Guard, came into effect on Monday.
Under the new provisions, refresher exercises for reservists can now be organized on short notice to ensure border security.
This measure is intended to be highly exceptional and will only be utilized when and to the extent necessary to manage situations at the border.
A press release from the Border Guard states that the amendment addresses the ongoing exceptional circumstances at Finland’s eastern border with Russia.
The amendment specifically applies to Border Guard reservists who completed their conscript training with the Finnish Border Guard, not those trained under the Finnish Defence Forces. The Border Guard plans to provide detailed information to its reservists in August and September.
