In a dramatic twist at the Republican National Convention (RNC) held in Milwaukee, former Republican presidential contenders Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis have thrown their support behind Donald Trump as the party’s candidate for the upcoming November election.
Both Haley and DeSantis underscored the critical need for a unified Republican stance under Trump’s leadership, framing the upcoming election as pivotal for the future of the United States.
Nikki Haley, former United Nations ambassador under Trump, faced a mixed reception as she took the stage, but she wasted no time in delivering a resolute endorsement of Trump.
“Donald Trump has my unwavering endorsement, unequivocally,” Haley asserted firmly, setting the tone for her endorsement speech.
Expressing concerns about Joe Biden’s debate performances and the prospect of Kamala Harris assuming the presidency, Haley cautioned, “Whether it’s four more years of Biden or even a single day under Harris, our country’s prospects will be severely diminished.”
Haley criticized the Biden administration’s immigration policies, labeling them as the foremost threat to Americans today.
“Just look at our borders – it’s the single greatest threat Americans face under Joe Biden,” Haley warned. “Thousands of migrants pour into our country daily. We have no knowledge of their identities, their destinations, or their intentions.”
Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida echoed Haley’s sentiments, attributing his state’s shift to a staunch Republican stronghold to Trump’s leadership.
“Thanks to bold leadership, the Democratic party is in disarray. The left is in retreat. Freedom prevails,” DeSantis declared.
He stressed the urgency of re-electing Trump to replicate Florida’s achievements across the nation.
DeSantis also criticized Biden’s policies, particularly on voting rights and immigration.
“We maintain that voting should be reserved for citizens, with identification required at the polls,” DeSantis affirmed, lambasting Biden’s endorsement of what he deemed “open borders” and lenient immigration policies.
The Florida governor also addressed Biden’s age, humorously comparing it to the film “Weekend at Bernie’s” to underscore the necessity for a robust, capable commander-in-chief.
“America cannot afford another term under a ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’ presidency,” DeSantis quipped.
