Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump concluded Day 2 of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with a 20-minute speech that took a poignant turn addressing the recent assassination attempt on her father-in-law, former President Donald Trump.
She revealed that her prepared speech underwent a significant change following the shooting at Trump’s Pennsylvania rally, an event that resulted in one fatality and injuries to three individuals, including the former president himself.
“Nothing can prepare you for a moment like that,” Lara reflected. “Our family has endured numerous death threats, received suspicious packages at our homes, and faced tasteless and violent comments on social media. But nothing compares to witnessing someone attempt to kill a person you deeply care for.”
As a mother, Lara described the anguish of shielding her young children from witnessing the traumatic event unfold on screen, fearing its lasting impact on their memories of their grandfather.
Lara Trump also expressed admiration for Donald Trump not only as a political figure but also as a devoted father and grandfather. She highlighted the unwavering support shown by Trump’s followers, particularly in the aftermath of the recent incident.
“You’d be hard-pressed to find a more joyful group of people united by their love for our great nation, the United States of America,” Lara remarked.
During her speech, Lara emphasized the achievements of the Trump administration’s first term, including stricter immigration policies, peace initiatives in the Middle East, and comprehensive reforms in the prison system. She criticized what she termed as the “unfounded narrative” that Trump’s re-election would lead to detrimental consequences.
“You might not have agreed with everything he tweeted, but there’s no denying that America was better off during Donald Trump’s presidency,” Lara asserted.
