Kogi govt says residents should abstain from the planned nationwide protest.

The Kogi state government has advised its residents not to participate in an upcoming nationwide protest.

Reports indicate that some youths are organizing a protest from August 1 to 15 to address the rising cost of living and economic hardship in the country.

On Sunday, Kingsley Fanwo, Kogi’s commissioner for information and communication, issued a statement expressing the state government’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to revive the economy.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is diligently working to revitalize the nation’s economy,” Fanwo said. “The federal government has implemented fiscal and monetary policies that are already showing positive results and introduced economic incentives to tackle short, medium, and long-term challenges. Sectors like agriculture, industrialization, infrastructure, education, and healthcare are receiving significant attention.”

Fanwo highlighted the commitment of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration in Kogi State to align with federal efforts by making substantial investments in agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

“We are also providing palliatives to support households across the state, mitigating the effects of the economic hardship caused by years of mismanagement that the Tinubu administration is working to rectify,” he added.

Fanwo urged citizens to support government efforts at all levels to address the issues affecting their well-being.

“A protest would be justified if the government were not taking any action or if the efforts were not yielding results. However, protesting now undermines the foundation of our recovery process and risks plunging the nation back into the chaos seen during the #EndSARS protests,” he stated.

Fanwo also suggested that intelligence reports have linked the planned protest to “opposition figures.”

“We are proud that the people of Kogi have resisted the destabilizing efforts of these agents,” he concluded.
