Hunger Protest – Don’t cause chaos in Nigeria, APC governors tell youths

Governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform have urged youths to refrain from participating in the planned nationwide protest.

The governors made this appeal on Wednesday night after a meeting in Abuja that lasted over two hours.

Reports indicate that youths are organizing a nationwide protest between August 1 and 15 to voice their concerns over the rising cost of living and economic hardship in the country.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo and chairman of the APC Governors Forum, emphasized that the federal government is making concerted efforts to address the economic challenges facing the nation.

“We are fully committed to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our president and the leader of our party,” Uzodimma said, flanked by his colleagues.

“We support all his economic policies and the reforms he has initiated.

“We agreed to communicate to Nigerians that this government is on the right track.

“We have reviewed the various policies of this government and acknowledge the initial challenges associated with the new programs. We believe that these measures will ultimately solve the current economic problems and hardships. We are confident that in a short time, the situation will improve, leading to prosperity.

“We advise our young men and women to avoid being drawn into causing unrest or chaos in the country.

“Nigerians have already endured significant suffering due to the global economic recession, domestic insecurity, political tension instigated by opposition parties, and social media attacks on government policies.

“We urge all citizens to show patriotism and take ownership of our country. We have no other nation to call our own.”

The governors concluded by stating that it is “not wise at this moment” for youths or any group to engage in protests “under any guise.”
