On Tuesday, the Kano State House of Assembly passed the Kano State Emirates Council Establishment Bill 2024 after it successfully completed its third reading.
The bill, sponsored by Muhammad Bello Bututu, the lawmaker representing the Rimin Gado/Tofa state constituency, aims to establish Kano as a first-class emirate, while Rano, Gaya, and Karaye would remain second-class emirates.
Under the bill, the Emirs of the three second-class emirates will report to the Emir of Kano. They will have the authority to advise him on matters concerning public order, boundary disputes, and conflicts involving two or more people within their jurisdictions.
