The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, on Monday, announced Olayide Abas as its new acting chairman, to fill the vacuum created by the death of the late chairman, Isaac Omodewu.
Abas was, until his announcement as the acting chairman, the deputy chairman of the party, as he and the late Omodewu, alongside other members of the state Executive Committee of the APC got elected in the October 2021 congress of the party held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the state capital.
Aso Reporters reports that Omodewu, who travelled to the United States for medical treatment in November 2023, died on Sunday, August 18, 2024, during the sickness, and was buried in his hometown in Otu, the headquarters of Itesiwaju Local Government Area of the state, on Friday, September 13, 2024.

“Abas, a certified pharmacist, started his active political career with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria in the 70s and was a direct trainee under the late Uncle Bola Ige.
“In 1991, he emerged as the Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area (which was later split into Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Local Government councils).
“He was also appointed the chairman of Oyo State Hospital Management Board during the first term of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.”
The acting chairman also held various party positions at the state level between 2004 and 2009 under the defunct Action Congress and Action Congress of Nigeria.
