Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed their support for Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, amidst the ongoing political crisis in the state. This solidarity was conveyed in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of their meeting in Enugu.
The political discord in Rivers State involves a conflict between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Fubara’s successor. This feud has resulted in polarization within the Rivers State House of Assembly, with factions aligning either with Wike or with Fubara.
“The Forum acknowledges the crises within the Rivers State Chapter of the party and is committed to fostering peace. The Forum has resolved to support His Excellency, Sir Sim Fubara, Governor of Rivers State,” the communiqué stated.
The governors emphasized the necessity for “broad consultations” involving stakeholders to facilitate a peaceful resolution and achieve a lasting solution to the political impasse in the South-South state.
‘PDP WILL RESTORE NIGERIA’S PAST GLORY’
The governors also called on Nigerians to avoid anarchy and endorse the PDP’s bid to regain power in 2027. They cited the significant development Nigeria experienced under the PDP-led federal government from 1999 to 2015.
“The Forum stands in solidarity with the Nigerian populace during these challenging times and pledges to restore the prosperous era characterized by low inflation rates, affordable food, fuel, and transportation, stable foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows leading to a strong naira, and an overall improvement in human life quality,” the governors affirmed.
Furthermore, the governors commended their counterparts in PDP-governed states for their innovative governance approaches across various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, initiatives benefiting women and youth, and the timely completion of developmental projects nationwide.
