President Bola Tinubu has condemned the assassination attempt on former United States President Donald Trump.
The incident occurred at a political rally on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Pennsylvania. Trump narrowly escaped harm, stating, “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation revealed that 20-year-old Thomas Crooks fired multiple shots, resulting in one death and injuring two others. The Secret Service reported that the shooter acted from “an elevated position outside the rally” before being “neutralized” by agents.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Tinubu called the attack on Trump “distasteful” and beyond the boundaries of democratic norms. The Nigerian President emphasized that violence has no place in a democracy and expressed his best wishes for Trump’s recovery.
“I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded, wishing them a quick recovery,” Tinubu added. “Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”
