The House of Representatives has mourned the loss of another member, Rep. Ekene Abubakar Adams, who represented the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.
His passing occurred just six days after the death of Rep. Olajide Akinremi from Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State, who was 51 years old.
In an official statement on Tuesday, House spokesperson Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr. announced that Rep. Adams passed away early Tuesday morning at the age of 39.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended his condolences to the National Assembly, as well as to the people and government of Kaduna State, following the news of Honourable Adams’ demise.
Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, conveyed Tinubu’s message, urging the deceased lawmaker’s family to find comfort in his lasting contributions.
President Tinubu also prayed for the peaceful repose of Rep. Adams’ soul and for strength for his bereaved family.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, and his Deputy, Benjamin Kalu, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their colleague.
During a brief plenary session on Tuesday, Speaker Abbas announced the tragic passing of Rep. Ekene Adams, leading the House in observing a minute of silence as a mark of respect.
In accordance with House traditions, the session was adjourned to honor the late lawmaker.
Speaker Abbas personally led a House delegation to visit the late Rep. Ekene’s residence in Abuja, where he offered condolences to the deceased’s wife and parents. Prayers were said for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Similarly, Barrister Julius Abure, National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), expressed profound sadness at the loss of one of its lawmakers, Adams.
In a statement on Tuesday, Abure described the news of Hon. Adams’ passing as a shocking and deeply saddening development. He noted that the late federal lawmaker was known for his courage in speaking truth to power, despite his young age.
Peter Obi, the LP presidential candidate in the previous year’s general election, also mourned Adams’ untimely death at the age of 39, describing it as a tragic loss to the nation.
