Nnamdi Kanu : Knocks as politicians in the north support the call for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has criticized federal lawmakers, particularly those from the north, for supporting the call to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Recent reports indicate that the push for Kanu’s release has gained momentum, with prominent Nigerians, including lawmakers, voicing their support. However, CNG has condemned this call as treacherous and unpatriotic.

The Coalition stated that while they might understand the stance of Southeast governors and lawmakers, whom they accuse of long-standing support for Kanu, they find it incomprehensible and unacceptable for northern lawmakers to join the call. They view the demand for Kanu’s release as an affront to those who lost their lives due to Kanu’s secessionist activities and a slap in the face of the Nigerian people.

CNG reminded that on August 7, 2017, they reported Nnamdi Kanu to the United Nations, accusing him of committing acts of terror against innocent Nigerians. They also called for IPOB to be declared a terrorist organization.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the group expressed strong disapproval: “We reject this legislative rascality. We are shocked that House of Representatives members, including those from Northern Nigeria, are supporting the release of a terrorist being held on charges before a court of competent jurisdiction. This is a blatant attempt to subvert the rule of law and undermine the authority of the Nigerian judiciary. Where were they when Nnamdi Kanu and his people were killing and are still killing Northerners in the east? Where were they when the properties of Northerners were destroyed by him? Are they elected for their personal benefits or for the interest of the citizens? It is shameful and disheartening to see a Northern lawmaker contributing to such an unjust matter. This will further demoralize the security operatives, seeing the killer of their loved ones celebrated in the NASS instead of being apprehended.”

The group also condemned southeastern legislators, governors, religious, and traditional leaders for their alleged complicity and support of Kanu’s actions but reserved their harshest criticism for northern lawmakers who endorsed this “treachery.”

“We will not let the blood of our loved ones be in vain. We will not let terrorism prevail,” the statement concluded.
