My body figure makes it easy for me to play seductive parts and husband snatchers in films – Lydia Usang

Sultry actress Lydia Usang joined Nollywood in 2022, and she is quickly becoming a force to reckon with in the industry. Known for her ample assets, Lydia never misses a chance to flaunt them, whether on screen or social media. Here, she shares her journey into Nollywood and her views on relationships.

**My Journey into Nollywood**

I arrived in Asaba without knowing anyone except for a secondary school classmate I was squatting with. I followed people to movie locations, trying to connect with anyone who could help me realize my dream of acting. I started getting minor roles in movies, but as an up-and-coming actress with nothing to fall back on, it was tough. I often didn’t get paid and resorted to selling fried meat at joints to make ends meet.

**What Gave Me the Courage**

I studied Theatre Arts at the University of Calabar, graduating in 2019. After graduation, I realized I had to pursue my dream. I imagined myself becoming a superstar. Two mentors suggested I either move to Lagos or Asaba. Since I was born and raised in Lagos, I chose Asaba. In Asaba, I met a female producer who gave me consistent work for a year, helping me gain recognition. When the jobs stopped, I hustled for survival. I realized that speaking only English wouldn’t set me apart, so I started doing ‘Calabar Accent’ comedy skits, which brought in more job offers.

**Sexual Harassment**

I entered the industry as an adult. Yes, some producers wanted to sleep with me, but I always opted out. I was never compelled to do anything against my will. I think starting with a female producer who gave me consistent work helped me avoid sexual harassment.

**Having a Crush on Set**

Before joining Nollywood, I admired certain actors. However, I entered the industry with the mindset that most actors weren’t serious enough to date. I avoided getting involved with them, understanding that such affairs would become public knowledge. This helped me control any crushes.

**My All-Time Crush in Nollywood**

That’s personal to me. Although I’ve starred in movies with him several times, I’m open about my feelings. I told him I liked him, and since then, we’ve been good friends.

**Romance on Screen**

Romantic roles come easily to me due to my physique. I often get cast in roles where I seduce people, snatch husbands, or flaunt my body. These roles are easy for me because of my features, but I don’t get emotionally attached to them.

**My Mental Well-Being**

I’m naturally emotional but can control my feelings. I’m glad I entered the industry at a time when I could say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to certain things. Sometimes, I might have a crush on someone, but I keep it to myself.

**Marrying an Actor**

Some actors are responsible, though many are not. If I meet a responsible actor who is willing to make a good husband, I’d consider it. I’m an actor, and I wouldn’t want an actor to reject me because of my profession. Ideally, I’d like to marry someone in movie production, whether a director, producer, or editor.

**My Red Flag**

A major turn-off for me is a man who cannot present himself well, lacks composure, or talks too much. First impressions matter greatly in a relationship.
