The Gombe State government has announced that it is finalizing the process to implement the new national minimum wage of N70,000 for its workers.
Manassah Jatau, the Gombe State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage Negotiation, shared this update with journalists on Sunday. He indicated that the committee is fine-tuning the details, and assured that Governor Inuwa Yahaya is dedicated to ensuring the new minimum wage is paid.
Represented by the State Head of Civil Service, Mr. Ahmed Abdullahi, Jatau emphasized the governor’s strong commitment to ensuring civil servants benefit from the new minimum wage. “Governor Inuwa Yahaya is fully committed to paying the minimum wage. He believes the new wage is essential,” Jatau stated.
He also noted that civil servants will continue to receive the N10,000 wage award they have been getting since September 2023 until the new minimum wage is implemented. “Once we finalize the agreement on the new minimum wage, implementation will begin, and the N10,000 palliative will cease,” Jatau added.
Mr. Yusuf Aish, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Gombe State, mentioned that all parties are waiting for the Federal Government’s approved wage table before full negotiations can start. “When the new minimum wage table is released, negotiations will proceed accordingly,” Aish said.
He urged civil servants to remain patient until the negotiations are concluded.
