Billionaire Elon Musk, following his endorsement of Donald Trump after the Republican candidate survived an assassination attempt on Saturday, is reportedly planning to donate about $45 million per month to a super PAC supporting the former president.
America PAC, formed last month to back Trump with financial help from some of Musk’s associates, includes Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, and former U.S. ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft and her husband, Joe Craft, the CEO of Alliance Resource Partners. According to The Wall Street Journal, the group has already spent at least $6.6 million in support of Trump, who was officially nominated at the Republican National Convention on Monday as the party’s presidential candidate.
America PAC is focused on voter registration and encouraging swing state residents to vote early and request mail-in ballots, aiming to counter the Democrats’ voter outreach efforts in the lead-up to the November election.
Musk, currently the world’s richest person with an estimated fortune exceeding $250 billion, plans to make substantial monthly donations of $45 million to the super PAC leading up to the election. The largest known donation of the 2024 election cycle comes from the great-grandson of banker Thomas Mellon, who donated $50 million to a pro-Trump super PAC.
A recent filing revealed that America PAC had $8.75 million in contributions for the three-month period ending on June 30, as reported by the WSJ. Musk is expected to begin his donations this month. Bloomberg News reported that Musk made a donation to the super PAC last week, though the amount was not disclosed.
In March, Musk stated that he did not plan to donate to the Trump or Biden campaigns. However, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO is now backing Trump, offering his full endorsement after the assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
“I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk wrote on X, adding in a subsequent post: “Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt.”
