Court decides suit seeking Ganduje’s removal Sept 23

The Federal High Court in Abuja has set September 23, 2024, as the new date for delivering judgment in a case seeking the removal of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, who heard the suit, had originally fixed September 18 for  judgment.

The matter was, however, not listed on the court’s cause list for Wednesday, with the court registrar explaining that the judgment was not ready and parties in the suit had been communicated to.

“We have already called the parties on phone to inform them of the development. The new date is next week, September 23,” the court registrar said.

The lawsuit, filed by the North Central APC Forum and led by Saleh Zazzaga, challenges Ganduje’s appointment as APC National Chairman on the grounds that he is from Kano State in the North West geopolitical zone, whereas the position, previously held by Senator Abdullahi Adamu from the North Central, should remain within that region according to the APC Constitution.

The plaintiff argues that Ganduje’s appointment violates Article 31.5(1) of the APC Constitution and exceeds the authority of the party’s National Executive Committee.

They are asking the court to bar Ganduje from acting as the APC Chairman and to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising any party actions under his leadership since his appointment on August 3, 2023.
