Former President Donald Trump has issued a statement following the shooting incident at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Law enforcement officials have reported that the shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination of the former president.
In a statement seen by The Nation, Trump revealed that a bullet pierced the upper part of his ear during the incident, which occurred while he was delivering a speech on stage.
“I knew immediately that something was wrong as I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet tearing through my skin. There was significant bleeding, so I quickly realized what was happening,” Trump stated in a post on his Truth Social platform.
“I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all law enforcement agencies for their rapid response.
“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person who was killed at the rally and also to the family of another person who was badly injured.
“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., mentioned that he spoke to his father on the phone and that “he is in great spirits.”
“He will never stop fighting to save America, no matter what the radical left throws at him,” Trump Jr. said in a statement.
