The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal on Thursday upheld the Bayelsa Governorship Election Tribunal’s decision, affirming the re-election of Governor Douye Diri on November 11, 2023.
A three-judge panel unanimously dismissed an appeal challenging the Tribunal’s ruling. The Justice Adekunle Adeleye-led Tribunal had previously dismissed the petition filed by the APC and its candidate, Timipre Sylva, on May 27, citing a lack of merit and insufficient evidence to support the allegations against the election results.
The appellate court declared the appeal incompetent, an abuse of the court process, and lacking merit, thereby confirming the Tribunal’s decision and Governor Diri’s re-election.
