The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Governor Dauda Lawal for his recent visit to Enugu State amidst a crisis of insecurity in Zamfara.
In a statement, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the party’s publicity secretary, condemned the governor’s actions, pointing out that 54 people were killed and hundreds were kidnapped within a single week while Governor Lawal was seen celebrating in Enugu with other PDP governors.
The statement reads in part: “It is deeply troubling to witness Governor Dauda Lawal’s apparent indifference to the suffering of his constituents while he dances away in Enugu with fellow PDP governors, leaving his state in mourning.
“The Governor’s video, which has circulated widely on social media, shows him joyfully dressed in traditional Igbo attire, dancing with PDP colleagues just a day after a wave of violence struck his state.
“To highlight the recent security situation: On July 8, bandits attacked Kofar Jangebe in Gusau, killing a policeman and a security guard, and kidnapping Alhaji Isiya Lalan’s son. On July 12, bandits targeted Yartasha in Maru local government, killing 11 people and abducting many. The following day, Tsafe town was hit, resulting in one death and multiple abductions. On July 14, Maguru in Kaura Namoda was attacked, killing 20 and abducting several others, including women and children. The violence continued on July 15 in Magami district, where 10 were killed and many abducted, and on July 16, Dan-Isah village faced a similar attack with 11 killed and numerous abductions.
“Despite these events, the Governor and his administration have seemingly remained inactive. We remind Governor Lawal of his 2023 campaign promise to end banditry within his first month in office. One year into his tenure, the people of Zamfara see him more frequently on television and social media enjoying himself rather than addressing the state’s urgent security issues.
“We urge the Governor to recall his promises and address these concerning behaviors to improve the situation.
“As a party, we commend the security agencies for their dedicated efforts and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families, praying for strength and comfort in their time of loss.”
