Tobi Amusan named Nigeria’s flagbearer for Paris 2024 Olympics

Tobi Amusan, the holder of the world record, has been chosen to represent his nation as the flagbearer in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Amusan’s designation is remarkable for Nigerian athletics since it makes her the first recipient of this honor in the past 20 years for track and field athletes.

“Tobi Amusan has been named as Nigeria’s flagbearer for the opening ceremony of #Paris2024 #Olympics – she becomes the first athlete from Athletics in 20yrs, since Mary Onyali at the Athens 2004 Games, to have such honors,” Making of Champions tweeted on social media platform X on Tuesday.

Known for her exceptional performances in the 100-meter hurdles, Amusan will lead the Nigerian contingent during the opening ceremony’s parade of nations.

The Nigerian Olympic Committee has also named another important player for the nation’s Olympic squad: badminton player Anuoluwapo Opeyori.
