Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, has approved a new digital verification system for military pensioners.
In a statement on Friday, Matawalle highlighted the transformative potential of this technology, emphasizing its role in reducing the risk of identity fraud within the military pensions system.
The new digital verification system, launched on July 1, offers several key benefits. These include enhanced security by minimizing identity fraud and impersonation, convenience by enabling pensioners to complete verification from their homes, cost efficiency by eliminating the need for travel, and improved accessibility for pensioners both within and outside Nigeria.
“This transition aims to minimize travel risks, reduce transportation costs, and accommodate the advanced age of many pensioners,” the statement reads.
Paul Irumheson, Chairman of the Military Pensions Board, underscored the importance of electronic verification for the safety and convenience of military pensioners.
“This innovative solution will ensure that retirees can verify their status from anywhere in the world, significantly reducing the burden of travel and associated risks,” Irumheson said.
